You use chemicals, don't you?

Good question!

The Chem in Chem-Dry stands for the power of Chemistry, not chemicals . . . which is maybe not the best name on the planet but 30 years into it they're not changing it.  It's not that we use chemicals to clean with, but the solution called The Natural, which is made from things that can be found in nature.  It's like a mineral bath in one way -- and it's very safe and non-toxic.  It is rated by the FDA as a 1 on a scale of 1-5 for toxicity, and classified as "Edible."  Not that I've ever tasted it . . . but I know some of the guys at Chem-Dry have done it!!

When we clean, the solution goes through the PowerHead machine, and as it hits the carpet, the A and B parts combine to create carbon dioxide gas bubbles.  So it's a Hot Carbonating Extraction method, which is the method recommended by the Carpet and Rug Institute to not void the warranty on your stain resistant carpets.

Just like in a glass of pop, the bubbles are moving and active, so they aid  the cleaning solution and help us to not have to use as much water as a steam-type cleaning -- about 90% less.  Then the technician scrubs the carpet and extracts most of the cleaning solution in what's called a dry pass.  Depending on the room, he can go over the same areas more than once until the carpet is cleaned to his satisfaction.

All the action of the bubbles moves everything up and out, you can literally see what's coming up out of your carpet!  And it keeps on cleaning itself after we're gone, to avoid getting dirty again quickly.  If you add stain resistance, it re-coats the fibers to cover up the dye sites again where the color was originally put into the carpet, and keeps them protected from any new colored spills, red mud, etc. from dyeing the carpet that color.  Carpet needs to be re-protected every 2 cleanings or 1-2 years depending on how much wear an area is getting, if people regularly eat and drink there, etc.
